This book, originally called 'Carers in the Community: Why have you forsaken me?' is the story of an ordinary mother's personal journey through the nightmare of caring for a daughter with severe depression.

With no previous training, the author has built on her experiences as a carer, and examines the difficulties posed to people, including those with a Christian faith. Beyond the personal dimension, the author examines support given to carers and specifically that given by the Catholic Church. She produces stirring evidence in support of her view that more needs to be done to help this vulnerable group. The book will provide valuable information to many carers, who feel isolated and unsupported, and will also be of considerable interest to the professionals who offer help in such circumstances. In attempting to identify the particular value and importance of the dimension of spiritual support, it also provides a valuable reference for the Churches.
